Learn more about it

Ottawa, ON – October 10th - Badminton Canada is thrilled to announce that it has received $50,000 in funding from the Federal Government through the International Single Sports Events (ISSE) – Hosting Program. This vital financial support will play a crucial role in enabling the organization to host a series of high-profile badminton events, further elevating the sport's visibility and participation across the country.

“Badminton Canada is grateful to receive funding for the 2024 Yonex Canadian International Challenge from the Canadian Government. Event funding is critical to assist our athletes with international competitions held in Canada. Without this funding Canadian athletes must travel extensively to compete against some of the best in badminton at great expense”, said Bryan Merrett, Executive Director of Badminton Canada.

The positive impact of the Yonex Canadian International Challenge extends beyond the realm of sport. They are fundamental to the local economies of the regions where they are held, drawing tourists, including friends and family of participants, event staff, and sports enthusiasts. This influx of visitors boosts the hospitality sector, resulting in increased demand for accommodation, transportation, and food services. Additionally, such events enhance local entertainment options, promoting vibrant community engagement.

Badminton Canada is excited about the opportunities this funding will unlock and is committed to leveraging it to elevate the sport in Canada. With the YCIC on the horizon, the organization looks forward to engaging more athletes, inspiring communities, and celebrating the spirit of badminton. By promoting healthy and active lifestyles through sport, international sporting events serve as a powerful catalyst for inspiring individuals to take part in physical activities.
