2024 Yonex Canadian Senior / Para-Badminton Championships - The Badminton tournament in Vancouver reunited more than 100 athletes

             Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club in Beautiful British Columbia hosted the 2024 Yonex Canadian Senior / Para-Badminton Championships. The tournament involves some of the country's top players and provides opportunities for players to play at a high level and develop domestic competitive play.

             This year, the competition had a record number of players: 128, an increase of 60,16% compared to last year, an absolute success. The matches also had an exponential rise. In 2023, there were 131 matches, and this year, a total of 210 games, an expressive increase of 60,30% on the total matches.

             Erik Nilsson, President of Badminton Canada, said, "It's fantastic to see the sport's growth. He highlighted that those four days of matches were important for the Canadian athletes: "The players came from all over the country to participate. A university team from Laval came, which was really nice. I was impressed with the ability of short-stature athletes as well. The legacy of this event is really the players". Erik also shared his personal experience with the event, "I played here as a Junior and as a senior as well; it brings a lot of memories!

One of the most expected matches was between Victor Lai and Joshua Nguyen in the Men's Singles category. Both athletes talked about the finals before the match: "We played against each other more than 20 times. I am prepared for a long battle because that's how it's been, " said Joshua. I will play against my long-time rival, and I hope to beat him again. " Victor Lai defended his championship and took home the gold medal again this year in a thrilling match.
