Former CEO & High Performance Director for Badminton Canada passes away

Roy Roberts of Camrose, formally of Ottawa and born in Solihull England. Former CEO & High Performance Director for Badminton Canada (retired in 1996) passed away on the 24th day of March 2014 at the age of 82 after a long battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Nicole, sons Jonathan (Karen), David (Pyerre) Roberts and Alain DeBlois. Grandchildren Jason, Adam, Justine Roberts and Nicholas DeBlois. Great grandchildren Owen & Isaac Roberts and brother Graham (Dot) residing in England.

A very special thank you to Dr. Awakan for looking after him for the past 6 years and to all the Paliative Care Unit nursing staff at St. Mary`s Hospital who have cared for him for the past few months. As per his wishes, no service will be held.

My father dedicated his life to Badminton and to helping to build a better foundation for the Canadian amateur sport system. He was the most proud when he and his team were representing Canada at major international games, especially at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 when badminton became an official Olympic sport. His love for the sport is what fueled his passion.

May he now rest in peace.
