Hosts announced for Badminton Canada 2016 and 2017

 for Yonex Canadian University /College Championships and 2016 Yonex Canadian U23/Junior Championship

OTTAWA (Badminton Canada) – Badminton Canada announced Monday the hosts for the Yonex University/College Championships and 2016 Yonex U23/Junior Championship.

The 2016 and 2017 Yonex University/College Championships will be hosted by University Laval in Quebec City QC in the newly constructed PEPs facility. The 2016 Championship will be held March 25 to 27 with the dates of the 2017 event to be confirmed shortly. The 2015 Yonex University/College Championship was hosted by the CEGEP de Drummondville.

“The Yonex Canadian University/College Championships are an important event for Badminton Canada.” said Anil Kaul, President of Badminton Canada. “Many of our top players have further their development through great coaching available and events organized by our CCAA and CIS partners and we will continue to recognize their valuable contribution to our sport”.

“Université Laval is very pleased to bring this event to Quebec for 2016 and 2017.” Indicated Gilles Lepine, Director of Varsity Athletics. “Badminton is a significant sport in our region and the success of the Université Laval athletes have had at this event in the past demonstrates the excellent work being done by the Rouge et Or Badminton Club.”

The 2016 Yonex Canadian U23 and Junior National Championship will be hosted by the Moncton Badminton Club at the Crossman Center in Moncton NB from May 16 to 21, 2016.

The Yonex Canadian U23 and Junior National Championship is the largest domestic event organized by Badminton Canada and welcomes on average over 300 of the top junior players in Canada to the event. Athletes will compete in the under 15, under 17, under 19 and under 23 age groups for the national title in men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles. The 2015 Yonex Canadian U23 and Junior National Championship was successful hosted by Badminton Manitoba at the University of Winnipeg.

We have a strong tradition of hosting outstanding badminton events both at a national and international level” stated Daryl Beers, President of the Moncton Badminton Club “This event will feature the best our sport has to offer and we are excited to share our sport with all New Brunswickers”.
