2015/16 Yonex Canada National Badminton Team

Ottawa ON. - Badminton Canada announced Monday the 12 athletes  who

will be a part of 2015/16 Yonex Canada National Badminton Team.
The roster includes 9 returning players from the 2014/15 National Team and
adds three of Canada's top junior players to the team. 

Leading the team in 2015/16 will be Michelle Li (Markham ON). In 2014/15
Michelle had a successful year in which she reached a World Ranking on 11th
in the world, won the Gold Medal in Women' Singles at the 2014 Commonwealth
Games and won 4 major BWF event (including the 2014 Canada Open). Michelle
also beat the 2014 World Champion Caroline Marin of Spain in May 2015 at the
Sudirman Cup in China.

Also returning the 2015/16 team are 2012 Olympians Alex Bruce (Toronto, ON)
and Toby Ng (Richmond BC). The mixed pair of Ng/Bruce dominated the
Badminton Canada Senior Circuit this past year claiming two of the circuit
titles as well as winning the 2015 National Championship. With a current
world ranking of 30th, they are on target for another strong season in 2015.

Badminton Canada also welcomes three new faces to the 2015/16 National team
with the additions of Andrew D'Souza (Ottawa, ON), Josephine Wu (Edmonton,
AB), and Jason Ho-Shue (Markham ON). D'Souza was the top ranked men's
singles player in Canada and won the 2015 Senior National Championship. Wu
dominated the under 23 age category at the 2015 Junior National winning gold
in two events, while Ho-Shue dominated the under 19 age (U19) category last
year in Canada. Ho-Shue was ranked #1 in U19 boys' singles, U19 boys
doubles, U19 mixed doubles and claimed the gold medal in all three events at
the 2015 Junior National Championships.

"The 2015/16 Yonex Canada National Badminton Team represents the best our
sport has to offer. The team is a solid mix of veteran players who are
targeting medals at both the 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games and Rio Olympics as
well as several younger players who are targeting the podium in three of
four years from now", stated Joe Morissette, Executive Director of Badminton
Canada. "We look forward to supporting all these outstanding players in
reaching their goals during the 2015/16 season."
