The stage is set for the 2015 Yonex U23 and Junior National Badminton Championships in Winnipeg

The 2015 Yonex U23 and Junior National Badminton Championships will take place April 26 to May 2 at the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Over three hundred of Canada’s best and brightest young badminton stars will convene at Duckworth Centre in April for the pinnacle of competition in their age groups.

Ten badminton courts will be used in the competition (a mix of hardwood and portable courts), with plenty of space for parents and spectators to take in the action. A test event at the venue will take place in early April to ensure it is in perfect condition for play when athletes arrive at the end of the month.

In addition to the excitement of seven action-packed competition days, the young athletes attending this year’s Yonex U23 and Junior National Badminton Championships will be treated to an exhibition and skills clinic from Danish superstar Peter Gade. Gade will also be on hand to watch semi final and final matches.

The Manitoba Badminton Association has committed to delivering a gold standard event for Canada’s young athletes, and is well on track to doing just that.

"Winnipeg has long been anticipating hosting the 2015 Yonex U23 and Junior National Badminton Championships,” said Ryan Giesbrecht, Co-Chair of the Tournament Hosting Committee. “We will be ready to welcome young badminton players from each Province and Territory, and look forward to an exciting and memorable event in the center of Canada!"

“The U23/Junior Championship is the largest event on the Badminton Canada calendar,” said Peter Golding, President of Badminton Canada. “We are pleased to have a strong host like Badminton Manitoba to organize the championship this year.”

“The U23/Junior Championship is an important event for Badminton Canada,” indicated Joe Morissette, Executive Director of Badminton Canada.” “This event provides a great opportunity to gauge the progress of our junior athletes and will serve as a qualifier for both the Pan Am Junior and World Junior Championships in 2015.”
